Before we start painting/decorating the bottles, let me clear some doubts with some FAQ’s.
Which paint is used for bottle painting?
Acrylic colors are best choice for bottle painting. You can use chalk paint or spray paint also.
How do you start a bottle painting?
Step 1: Remove the labels. Before you start painting the bottles, you need to remove labels on bottles. The best way to remove label is to immerse them in lukewarm water for an hour and they will come out easily.
Step 2: selection of paint. Choose any color for painting. Acrylic colors are best choice to paint the bottle. Acrylic color doesn’t take much time to dry. If you are planning to do decoupage on bottles then you should go with chalk paint. You can use spray paint also.
Step 3: Let the bottle completely dry after coloring. Start making design. U can make designs using thin paint brush, 3d outliner, masking tape, spray paint, mouldit clay or decorative materials.

Let’s take a look how I have painted glass bottles step by step.
Material used to paint glass bottles:
- Glass bottles
- Acrylic colors
- KABEER ART modeling clay
- Varnish
- Artificial flowers
- Golden color
- Brushes
- Fevicol.
Step 1 for bottle painting:
It’s very important to clean the bottle before you start painting it. Let’s see how to clean the bottle.
1: Start by soaking the bottles in lukewarm water.
2: After a good soaking the bottle labels should be ready to peel off. Remove the label.
3: Time to start coloring!
Step 2 How to use KABEER art modelling clay:
I had 2 same bottles and I wanted to keep them together to decorate my balcony shelve. I was confused, how could I decorate both bottles that too they look they could paired with each other. And additional reason why i decorated both bottle in this way is because I wanted to keep them in my balcony.
So first bottle I decorated with leaves made from air dry clay and second bottle decorated with flowers. I have used KABEER ART modeling clay to make leaves. KABEER ART modeling clay makes highly detailed pieces and modeling clay could be air hardening in 24 hours. It is oil-based so it won’t harden over time and it provides a smooth consistency, which is great for many types of sculptures. You can buy this modeling clay online.Its not compulsory to use same modeling clay, there are many other options you can go for. Instead KABEER ART modeling clay you use Fevicryl Mouldit clay.
- There are many things that can be made from air dry clay. Fevicryl Mouldit is the best option for beginners who wants to make decorative items using air dry clay. Step 3:
When working with air dry clay, it’s a good idea to apply oil on hands. Moist hands will allow you to work with the clay more easily, and will prevent the clay from sticking to your skin too much.
Take the clay dough, flat it with roller and use clay modeling tools to draw leaf shape and cut it.
Step 4:
So I made here different sizes of leaves and pasted them on a bottle using fevicol.
Step 5:
Let them dry completely.
Step 6:
I wanted to color the bottle with red color and highlight the leaves with golden color. I have applied red color to complete bottle first then used golden color to highlight the leaves. You can use sponge to highlight the leaves with golden color.
Step 7:
After coloring bottle will look like this.
Step 8:
I have used golden color to highlight the design. It just gave leaves a wonderful shine and now they look completely made of gold.
Step 9:
Use sponge tool to apply golden color on leaves.
Step 10:
What is the role of a Varnish in Painting? The varnish layer plays a twofold role: it has result on the final look of the painting and also serves as a protective coating for the paint surface. Varnishes strengthen the appearance of pigments on the painting surface by the refraction of light.
Step 11:
Once dries apply varnish over it.
Step 12:
The bottle looks really amazing with red and golden color combination. It golden color on leaves just gave leaves a wonderful shine and added extra charm to the art on bottle.
Step 13:
Now I am going to start decorative another bottle. I already cleaned this bottle.
Step 14:
To decorate first bottle I have used modeling clay so I wanted to decorate second bottle in different way. I used that bunch of flowers to decorate this bottle. As the flowers color was light yellow, so I chose turtle green color for bottles background. Apply color on bottle as per your choice. I have painted with turtle green color.
Step 15:
I wanted to do some floral design on this bottle so I tried to decorate it with some artificial flowers. I have used artificial flowers to make small flower vase on bottle. I brought these flowers from “Itsy Bitsy” store. I made small vase using natural burlap roll. Stick flowers and vase shape burlap cutout using fevicol. You can add more flowers or colorful flowers and use decorative things like pearls glitter to make it more beautiful.
Step 16:
Both the bottles look amazing together because of their color combination. You can decorate these bottles in your living room as well as in garden or balcony. You can put some artificial flowers too and use it as a vase.
